| Man, pregnant wife killed in school bus crash in Keramat Posted on 1 August 2012 - 04:29pm KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 1, 2012): A man and his pregnant wife were killed after their motorcycle was involved in an accident in Jalan 15/56 AU 3, Keramat, here today. Hafezee Mohd Hanafi, 30, and his 7 months pregnant wife, Siti Noor Edayu Roslan, 26, were hit from behind by a school bus at a traffic junction. Defence Ministry staff Hafezee was sending Siti Noor to work in Cheras on his Yamaha Lagenda Z motorcycle when the accident occurred at about 7am. Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Legal staff officer, DSP Abdullah Roning said the bus travelling from Cempaka Police flats was heading towards Taman Setiawangsa. He believed that the accident occurred due to the bus driver's failure to control his vehicle while descending a hill. The couple who were sandwiched between two buses died on the spot. "We are still investigating how the bus driver lost control. It could be due failure of the brake system," he said through an SMS. The bodies were sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) for post-mortem and the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) Road Transport Act 1987. Two witnesses who were interviewed at the scene said the bus was speeding downhill, lost control and grazed another vehicle before hitting a motorcycle. Saiful Azhar Ismail, 39, said he was on his way to work when he saw a bus descending downhill at high speed trying to avoid a car parked on the side of the road. "I saw the bus trying to avoid a Mercedes before crashing into the motorcycle, causing the victims to be sandwiched between two buses," he said. Khairi Azwan, 29, said the fatal accident involved at least nine vehicles comprising two buses, five cars and two motorcycles. "I also helped victims who were injured and managed to evacuate students from the bus. "The bus driver responsible for the crash only suffered knee injuries," said Khairi who was on his way to a nearby grocery store. Siti Noor's father, Roslan Jalil, 53, said the loss of his daughter was a shock as they were ready to welcome a new member to the family. "I did not believe that such a thing could happen. However, I accept this as fate and that she is gone," he said when met at HKL morgue. The couple leave behind a two-year-old son. – Bernama
