[8]Samy Vellu: Panik bila kapalterbang jatuh 30,000 feet akibat tekanan udara !

IT WAS truly a harrowing experience for former MIC president, Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu and passengers on board flight MH181 when the aircraft suddenly dropped about 30,000 feet due to a sudden loss of cabin pressure while flying from Chennai, India, to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Sepang.

Recalling the incident at 7.30am on Sunday, Samy said that despite the panic, he managed to remain calm and surprisingly did not feel even the slightest element of fear.

“I was not afraid at all .... in fact I felt my emotions become stronger and that I was prepared for anything,” he told The Malay Mail.

Samy, who is the country’s special envoy to India and South Asia, said quick action by the pilot also helped avert a possible tragedy.

“When the pilot discovered the aircraft was facing technical problems, he assured the passengers that everything was being done to ensure a safe landing at the nearest possible airport.

“He said that by God’s grace they would be able to resolve the problem soon and at it crossed my mind that whatever was to happen within the next few seconds would be purely up to God,” he said.

However, he said he was grateful and happy that he — along with all the other passengers and crew — made it through the ordeal and thanked the quick thinking MAS pilot, whom he described as a “very smart man”.

“It was indeed one of the scariest moments of my life and I am thankful that I am alive today. I thank God for his grace and for giving me another chance,” he said.

Samy’s principal secretary, E. Sivabalan who had accompanied him described the situation as chaotic with the 120 over passengers on board screaming and praying for their safety.

He said the situation became worst when a number of emergency masks on board were malfunctioning.

“Several passengers really began panicking when they were told to assume an emergency landing position without being told what was going on.

“It was like a scene from a movie ... people screaming, crying praying ... it was awful,” he added.

The flight landed safely at the Penang International Airport about 8.04am.

When contacted, a spokesman for MAS said they were still conducting investigations and a team would come up with a detailed report soon.

“Rest assured, we are conducting a thorough investigation into what transpired and we expect the report to be ready in a week or so,” said the spokesman, who declined further comment.

...kalau kita berada di tempat samy vellu ... kita jugak pastinya sangat2 takut ...... pasti waktu itu terbayang akan segala dosa2 silam .. terbayang akan anak2/suami/isteri yang menunggu .. ibu ayah ...terbayang akan ajal ..... etc etc ... takutnyaaa ... sib baik tak pernah dan tak perlu naik2 kapal terbang bagai ni ...
